"In November 2022, I got to meet Satu Rämö live at the Helsinki Book Fair. Sigga and Satu's knitting book had just been published. I’ve been a fan of Satu for the longest time and naturally I had to knit a sweater from the book for the meeting. I cast on Skjól, which means protection in Finnish. I made mine from Alafosslopi in earthy harmonious tones. I started knitting on Friday and the sweater was finished on Monday evening. A quick and easy knit!
Satu's Hildur book was the most read book in Finland in 2022. We knitters were especially joyous about the Finnish policeman character in the book who knits sweaters! I listened to Hildur during my summer vacation. The story was really addictive and I can't wait for the sequels. Hopefully it will soon be translated to English too! “
The Icelandic knitting boom is still going strong in the Northern Hemisphere! Tiina has already knitted three sweaters from Icelandic yarns, Linka Neumann’s Alasuq Polar, Jenna Kostet’s Metsänpeito from Lettlopi. and now Skjól.
Metsänpeitto from Lettlopi (this patern is also in English!)
Sweaters knitted from Alafosslopi are suitable for outdoor activities. Icelandic wool is rough but warms excellently. There is a continuous high demand of Icelandic wool. If a shade is just out of stock, you can replace the Alafosslopi with Lettlopi held double. If you want to try a softer yarn than Alafosslopi, try Sandnes Garn Fritidsgarn, which works great as a substitute.
