Kelly Sweater

Sometimes you see a knitwear pattern that seems to directly speak to you. It happened with Kelly Sweater (Genser) from Sandnes Garn. The minute I saw it it said “Put me on your needles!”

The Kelly Sweater is a stylish timeless garment that can be worn with almost any outfit. This is also a beginner friendly knitting pattern with countless color variations. 

There are two versions of the Kelly Sweater, one with a slit and the other without. Tiina is knitting the one with the slit. You can find both patterns from the Sandnes Garn 2109 DIY -booklet.


Kelly Sweater without a slit. 

The original sweater in the picture has a fair amount of positive ease, because oversize sweaters are still trendy. Of course you can knit it with less ease. Kelly Sweater with slit has a heathered effect since it uses two different color yarns, that is also en vogue. It just brings something extra to this otherwise simple knitted sweater. If you prefer, you can knit a solid color sweater. 


The Kelly sweater is knitted from top down and in the round. The neck is shaped with German short rows. Once you divide the sleeve and body, you continue to knit in the round until the slit. Then you continue to knit the front and the back flat. The sleeves are knitted entirely in the round. 

The yarn combination Double Sunday and Tynn Silk Mohair is smooth and feels like butter. It is a joy to knit! The sweater knits up rather fast too, it’s worked on 5 mm needles. Quite like the long ribbing on the cuffs and hem too.
