Knitting Patterns,

Long knitted cardigan Kannolla

Julkaistu: 07.10.2022

The Kannolla Cardigan was born out of a very selfish need in the fall of 2021. I was alone at the cabin, in my favorite place in the middle of the forest. I thought about all the things that a middle-aged woman at the crossroads of her life might think about... Knitting is a lot like work for me. That said, I would like to say that of course I enjoy this work, it is my passion, but a lot of it is actual work. You have to (and of course can!) test new yarns, designs, knit swatches, knit samples and follow the previously agreed knitting plans. There is far too little time to knit exactly what you want on the spur of the moment with the yarn you want.

I decided that now is the moment to take a moment for myself and just knit and enjoy it. This cardigan was born from all of this, the environment, current feelings, as well as from listening to Yona's latest album (Finnish artist), Uni johon herään.

I wanted a big, warm cardigan or an actual coat from my favorite yarns, Tukuwool DK and Isager Silk Mohair. Of course, our own yarn Tukuwool is always closest to my heart, and Tukuwool DK combined with silk mohair is just an irresistible combination. I  wanted to test how different shades would work together and I tested many different color combinations. I fell in love with the combination of gray, brown and olive green. This combination reminded me of the forest, the trees and stumps, things that I see at my cottage, of my favorite place, of my own space... colors that bring security and maybe even camouflage, if needed.

Here are a few examples of the swatches I made:

Brown -white

Tukuwool DK Nila and Sake with Filcolana Tilia, colorway Coffee 325

Yellow-white
Tukuwool DK Valo and Sake with Isager Silk Mohair colorway Yellow 22

I recommend trying out different color combinations, it's so much fun! Be brave! Have fun with them!
