PetiteKnit Ingrid Sweater and Slipover

Julkaistu: 21.10.2022

I used to think I’m not a knitted vest / slipover person, meaning that I love wool sweaters and I just don’t see the point of knitting a woollen vest. I love sleeves and I do not mind taking trips to sleeve islands. That said, by now I’ve knit 3 slipovers. I am wearing one right now as I’m writing this.

One of my favorite is the Ingrid Slipover by PetiteKnit. I made mine in the exact same yarns and colorways as per pattern. I used Isager Jensen and Silk Mohair. Used Jensen in colorway 4S and Isager Silk Mohair in colorway 30 black. I knit size M (medium) and had to actually unravel my swatch to be able to finish the slipover. That means buy enough yarn!

I was surprised how fast I actually finished it. The slipover looks complicated, but it’s rather simple. There aren’t any strenuous cables, only easy ones, you don’t even need a cable needle. Of course the lack of sleeves does help. :D I did not keep a record of how many hours I spent on this, but I think I finished it in two weeks. Is that fast or not?

This Ingrid Slipover was the first project where I used Jensen. This is a new addition to Titityy’s yarn selection. I really, really loved it. Since then I have already knit a sweater and a hoodie from Jensen and I am planning to knit at least another hoodie. It is soft, yet still has a bit of that rustic feeling. Combined with the silk mohair, Jensen is a heavenly match. In case you didn’t know, Isager's silk mohair is my favorite silk mohair on the market. (My stash is full of it.)

That said, you can knit the Ingrid Slipover without silk mohair, like Piia did.

From Piia: “I admired Enikö's knitted Ingrid and thought for a long time about which yarn or yarn combination I would use to knit mine. Not to mention the color! Then I saw the new addition to Sandnes Garn Peer Gynt, Tweed, that I definitely wanted to try. After thinking about it for a while, tweed-Ingrid had already sort of jumped onto  my needles. The more I was knitting it, the more satisfied I was with my yarn choice. Thick yarn, 5 mm needles and the textured pattern made the work go quickly, especially since there was no need to make sleeves! I made size M, which took about 9 skeins of Peer Gynt. The yarn was nice and soft to knit (although it looked coarser on the skein), and the end result is perfect! I find slipovers versatile and I actually like to wear them surprisingly often these days. I’d love to knit another one, at the same time thinking about if it should be the sweater version.”

I’m planning to cast on the Ingrid Sweater too, it is such a beautiful design. I seem to have a tough time trying to select colorways. I’d love to make one in pure white and another (no I don’t need two, I just want two!)  in the original colorway. I think I will knit it from Jensen and Isager Silk Mohair, although Finnish wool would work splendidly. Milja knit her version of Ingrid Sweater in Tukuwool Harmas, Finnish Kainuu-Grey wool in light grey with Isager Silk Mohair 06 powder. Sport weight wool knit up to Petiteknit’s gauge nicely, and Tukuwool DK would work perfectly too.

If you wish to substitute silk mohair with something else, a great option is to use a lace-weight alpaca yarn, like Alpaca 1 from Isager or Alva from Filcolana, and Fölgetråd from Sandnes Garn would be fine as well. Milja swatched her pullover with different oat brown to beige silk mohairs and alpaca, and found out that silk mohair made the fabric soft with drape, whereas alpaca gave firmer structure and made the stitch patterns pop out. Both silk mohair and alpaca colors blended well with the main yarn, and it is lovely to try different color combinations, both with matching colors, and different colors for that melange look.

Hope you’ll love knitting Ingrid slipovers and sweaters too!
